This album is a reminiscence to the dark metal of the 1990s, to a time where the conventions of metal were trampled underfoot and the genre's conceptual chains were irrevocably broken from the inside. Eldron puts it more precisely: "Bands such as Paradise Lost, Anathema, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Dark Tranquillity, or At The Gates are prime examples for an exploration of the human soul, the struggle of the individual against the chasms of life. While the band combined trippy beats with rocking eruptions on their previous releases, the group around Markus B. show their proximity to classic singer/songwriters on "The Mute Sessions" to enchant their listeners in a much more intimate way.
